Covid and the Community
A pandemic often creates historical change.
Focus usually lies with the tremendous loss and travel restrictions, however Covid-19 also
included seemingly endless resource wastage and a shift in presumed autonomy.
Billions of tests went to landfill, shortly after the single-use plastic ban in Australia, and well
before people were advised that tests could often be used after expiry dates if you just add a
little more saline.
This interactive exhibition is just a tiny sample of the endless ways we can reuse the
‘disposable’.
With an ASMR experience, activities, fashion and awe-inspiring light installations, this
exhibition has been curated by Amanda Kirk alongside the community who donated expired
tests, unboxed and processed the tests for use, and created amazing works from the waste.
Hosted from the Ellenbrook Arts Gallery and supported by the City of Swan
