Visiting Australia from the Family Peace Initiative in Kansas USA, Dorthy Stucky Halley and Steve Halley share their knowledge and learnings in this full day workshop.

This 6-hour presentation “cracks the code” on domestic and family violence perpetrator behaviour, presenting an evidence-informed understanding of their differences based on motive. This is ideal for perpetrator intervention professionals, advocates, child safety case managers, therapists, magistrates, lawyers and other professionals working with domestic violence concerns. Those with different motives display different behaviours and present different dangers to their victims and children. Through the use of videos and case examples, this information unlocks a deeper and more nuanced understanding of domestic violence, and provides practical information that can improve safety planning with victims and children, and intervention efforts with persons using violence.

Dorthy Stucky Halley and Steven Halley

Dorthy Stucky Halley, LMSW, and Steven Halley, LSCSW, are the Founders of the Family Peace Initiative, located in Topeka, Kansas. They have teamed together for nearly 30 years to pioneer a trauma-focused approach to intervening with perpetrators of domestic and family violence. Dorthy has been a leader in victim services since 1986. Her extensive history of victim advocacy and perpetrator intervention prompted the development of an evidence-informed motive typology of domestic violence offenders. Steve and Dorthy are international trainers presenting on a wide range of topics including trauma, domestic violence, and family violence intervention.
