Crafty Bees Workshop #1 (Origami Bee)

This event has passed Get tickets

Event description

Dr Jenny Jandt from University of Otago Dept of Zoology doesnt see these bees too often in Dunedin, but then native bees in general are not easily discovered because they are so small.

Make your own origami bee with Olga Hemmingsen from the library and find out everything you ever wanted to know about native pollinators (bees, butterflies, moths and flies) from Otago University researchers.

Native pollinators are at risk and declining - both in NZ and worldwide. A lot of research is finding that native bees and flies might be more effective pollinators than honey bees.

Dr Jenny Jandt’s message is simple - plant more flowers, plant flowering plants that bloom at different times of the year to ensure nectar feeding insects and birds have food to eat.

Crafty Bees Workshop is taking place in the Dunningham Suite, 4th Floor of the City Library.

Cost: Free - for school-aged children.

Book for your child - adults don't need to register but are required to accompany children to this event.

Hosted by Dunedin City Library: The Dunedin Public Libraries is a network of six libraries and two book buses in Dunedin, providing the public with free access to books, digital resources, archives of information, and the internet, and they have contributed events to the Festival since 2016.
