    Calling all climbers, walkers, surfers and lovers of our rocky coasts

    Come along to our Crag & Bush Care at Tomaree National Park
    and give back to the bush 

    Sunday 19 February 2023 

    Do you enjoy rock climbing or bush walking and are concerned about the bush around you?
    Join us at one of Tomaree's favourite climbing spots at Boulder Bay (the Treatment Plant) and help manage the invasive weeds here. 

    The Hunter Central Coast Climbing Coalition, the regional arm of Australian Climbing Association NSW, with the Friends of Tomaree National Park, a group of the National Parks Association (Hunter Area) invite you to join us. This activity is with the support of National Parks and Wildlife Service, NSW. 

    Come for our Crag & Bush Care morning, and climbers, if you wish, stay for an afternoon climb.

    Feeling lucky ... lucky (out)door prizes for weeders thanks to Pulse Climbing will be up for grabs.

    Morning 
    8.30am - 12pm

    Learn about native vegetation and how to deal with invasive weeds such as Bitou. Start pulling weeds! We'll also cut and paint with herbicide.

    Afternoon 
    Pull on the holds and enjoy the climbing. The climbing is not an organised activity and is not affiliated with ACANSW or Friends of Tomaree NP. Climbers will need their own equipment and climb at their own risk.

    Park and meet: 

    Park at Boulder Bay Rd near the entrance to the Tomaree Coastal Walk. 

    Participants please arrive 8:20am with all your gear for the day, including refreshments and climbing gear on hand, ready for 8.30am welcome, safety briefing, collection of CragCare / BushCare gear and departure.

    What to bring or wear 

    Morning:

    Helmet, eye protection, gardening gloves
    Long sleeved shirt and long pants (preferably loose)
    Covered in shoes and socks
    Water bottle
    Your own refreshments for the day
    And a can-do attitude

    Afternoon:

    Lunch if you wish to stay for a climb in the afternoon and your climbing gear.

    When registering please be aware

    Each participant will need to register separately and provide emergency contact details (first name and mobile) for someone not participating. 

    Any participant under 18 years must acknowledge that they have permission of their parent or legal guardian and provide the parent or guardian email address. Any child under 15 years must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian.

    * the Hunter Central Coast Climbing Coalition, the regional arm of Australian Climbing Association NSW, a volunteer community group advocating for rock climbing and stewardship of the climbing environment. 

    * the Friends of Tomaree National Park, a volunteer community group of Hunter Branch of the National Parks Association NSW. The NPA is a not-for-profit organisation, advocating for better management of national parks.

    The voluntary work program of the Friends of Tomaree is managed and supported by the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service who also support this event.

    The Friends of Tomaree National Park and the Australian Climbing Association NSW acknowledge we are meeting on the lands of the Worimi People. We pay respect to Elders, past, present and future, and acknowledge the pivotal role of First Nations People within the Australian community.
