Crag Safety, Survival & First Aid Workshop
Description
What happens when the weather turns, the climb takes longer than expected, or someone gets hurt at the crag?
Come spend an evening with ACIA-certified guide Maddie on how to better prepare and plan for a great day out, and then what to do if things go wrong. Get involved in a mix of theory and hands-on scenarios exploring the psychology of safety and survival, how to become an active participant in a rescue, and treating common illness and injuries including hypothermia, hyperthermia, dehydration and snake bites.
What you’ll learn:
Psychology of safety and survival
How to plan and pack based on weather conditions, terrain and potential hazards
Recognising, preventing and managing hypothermia, hyperthermia & dehydration
Treating common outdoor injuries and illnesses (e.g. snake bites, hypothermia & dehydration)
Navigation & emergency communication during a rescue
Bring a pen & paper to make notes. All participants will receive a FREE snake bite bandage and rescue blanket on the night (valued at $$24.90).

Maddie Aliprandi
/ ACIA Rock Climbing Guide & ASM Canyoning, Climbing & Abseiling Instructor / Maddie has 9 years experience teaching bushcraft and survival skills, and is an ACIA-qualified Multi-Pitch Rock Climbing Guide. She works with the Australian School of Mountaineering as a rock climbing, abseiling and canyoning guide and instructor, and has been part of first aid and operations teams at extreme sporting events - bringing hands-on experience in emergency response and risk management. Before becoming a guide, Maddie worked in coronial investigations, developing a deep understanding of what can go wrong outdoors and how preparation, decision-making and early action can save lives. Her teaching blends practical tools, honest stories and hard-won lessons to help climbers build confidence and make smarter decisions when it really counts.
