Professional Development Opportunity
Cairns Regional Domestic Violence Service (CRDVS) are offering a two-day or three-day training on domestic and family violence and its impact on children and young people, in Cairns.
Whether you work with victim-survivors, children or families who have experienced domestic and family violence or perpetrators of DFV this training offers comprehensive information and content that explores how victim-survivors and children experience and are affected by domestic and family violence.
Module 1: Recognising & Responding to Domestic & Family Violence (2 days)
- Explore the gendered nature, dynamics, signs, and patterns of domestic and family violence
- Unpack common myths about DFV and challenge the attitudes that support DFV against women and children.
- Explore high-risk indicators and increase knowledge of the dynamics of safety planning within the scope of your role.
- Deconstruct some of the common myths and beliefs held by perpetrators that support their use of violence against the women and children in their lives.
- Provide a trauma-informed response to adults who have experienced domestic.
- Examine Qld Domestic and Family Violence legislation
- Identify local support services and appropriate referrals
Module 2: The Effects of Domestic & Family Violence on Children & Young People (1 day)
- Explore how children and young people adapt and navigate through DFV.
- Identify safe and suitable supports and referral pathways
- Explore how children and young people experience DFV and its impact on attachment and development
- Explore the impact of DFV on parenting and the parent/child relationship.
Important Information:
- CRDVS reserves the right to cancel or change courses if deemed necessary, including where there are too few applicants for a particular program.
- CRDVS may limit the number of staff from a single organisation due to the number of places available and interest of the community.
- Ticket sales are final. Refunds are not guaranteed.
- Training is catered. CRDVS will make every effort to cater to most dietary requirements.
- Module 2 cannot be completed without prior completion of Module 1. Please contact the Community Educator if you have completed Module 1 or similar previously.
- If your organisation has 5 or more staff wanting to attend please contact CRDVS to discuss a tailored training package.
