    Event description

THIS CLASS IS PART OF MELBOURNE FASHION FESTIVAL'S FASHION CULTURE PROGRAM

Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose: Come along and learn how to make your own beautiful rug from upcycled fabric and a series of Amish or toothbrush knots – keeping textile waste out of landfill while learning new skills and starting a project for your home!

Your wonderful teacher Val will have lots of pretty fabrics to choose from but you are also welcome to bring in your own - a lovely way to put sentimental fabrics and old garments to use.

    What will we cover?

In this hands-on class you will:

    • Learn and practice how to create an Amish knot
    • Learn where to source and how to select suitable fabric
    • Learn who to best cut and rip fabric yarn
    • Learn to join fabric strips
    • Learn and practice how to start a round rug
    • Learn how to finish off your rug (so you can continue working on your rug at home to achieve your chosen size)
