SCHOOL HOLIDAY WORKSHOPS @ GOSFORD: Creating Expressive Characters'
Event description
Creating expressive characters
Have you ever looked at a drawing and thought… this looks a bit stiff. Why is their knee attached to their head?
Or caught yourself thinking: I can’t draw movement.
All my characters have the same apathetic expression.
What is a lumbar spine? Do I have one? Where is it?
Have no fear ! This Workshop is an in depth exploration on movement and expression in art with a sprinkling of anatomy basics for both humanoids and creatures! You can impress all your friends with the wonders of the sternocleidomastoid after this class.
Building on foundational character design skills, you will be guided through fundamentals to drawing such as
Line of action
Bean bag body
Squash and stretch
Basic proportion of the head and body
Exaggeration and foreshortening
Visualising in 3D
This workshop is suitable for all skill levels - first time artists are welcome! Materials (pencil and paper) will be supplied, but tablets/ipads/personal sketchbooks are welcomed!
