Permaculture is a practical design approach developed in Australia in the 1970s that draws inspiration from natural ecosystems. By observing how nature works, permaculture helps us create greener spaces that are more productive, regenerative, and enjoyable to spend time in.

Join Fiona Blackham for an introduction to the principles of permaculture and discover how to see your garden through a new lens. Learn how thoughtful design can help create thriving outdoor spaces that support biodiversity, conserve resources, and better meet your needs.

Whether you have a new garden, an established backyard, a courtyard or a large block, this workshop will:

teach you how to read your landscape,
understand sectors and zones,
analyse the relationships between different elements, and
identify practical steps to make your space healthier, more resilient and more connected to nature.

Whether you're looking to make a few simple changes or reimagine your entire garden, this workshop will provide the inspiration and tools to get started.

The workshop is divided into two parts:

Part 1: Indoor theory session

We will begin indoors at the Inglewood Sporties Club with a seated, interactive theory session.

Part 2: Outdoor practical session

The second part will take place outdoors in the Inglewood & Mount Lawley Community Garden. We will enjoy morning tea before moving into the practical component of the workshop.

Participants should be prepared to spend time on their feet, move through the garden, and have access to limited seating. Please wear clothing and footwear suitable for the weather conditions on the day.
