Creating Skillness: The impact of Social Prescribing
Event description
ASPIRE is excited to invite you attend an exclusive screening of our film "Creating Skillness: The impact of social prescribing" at the Palace Electric Cinemas in Canberra.
At the heart of every title, role, or designation, we are all essentially human – filled with dreams, aspirations, fears, and hopes. It's vital to remember this as we step into our roles each day. The people we engage with, while navigating their personal mental health journeys, are individuals seeking growth, passion, and purpose - like each of us
This film offers a heartwarming look into the lives of individuals with significant mental health challenges. But rather than defining them by their diagnoses, it captures their journeys as they rediscover their passions and interests through the SKillness® programs. SKillness is not just a program; it’s a movement. It's a testament to the human spirit, emphasising that everyone has a reservoir of untapped potential.
Through activities like cooking, gardening, and filmmaking, we see the blooming of talents, confidence, and joy – often overshadowed but never lost. This film is a gentle reminder of the magic that unfolds when we bridge the gap between professional responsibility and genuine human connection.
In 2022, Primary & Community Care Services (PCCS) developed and delivered a new set of SKillness classes in the Gold Coast, focused on building skills in cooking, gardening, and documentary filmmaking. As Australia’s leader in Social Prescribing, PCCS acted as the link for people between GPs and Health Services, and community-based skill building classes, supporting educational and contributory opportunities aligned with their interests, passions, and values.
This documentary represents the journey of these students through these classes and is a testament to the intersection between skills, community, and mental health, presenting a different way to explore funding opportunities and discussions around psychosocial reform across the sector.
