Creative Clay – Tuesday evenings
Introductory Statement about the Class or Workshop:
A guided pottery course where your ideas take centre stage. Whether you're a beginner eager to explore the basics or an enthusiast ready to refine your skills, this class offers the perfect opportunity to build confidence while mastering essential pottery techniques.
Through hands-on projects and expert guidance, you'll learn pinch pots, slab building, and coil building—core skills that will help bring your vision to life. You'll also gain valuable tips on assembling pieces with slip and score techniques and problem-solving design challenges as they arise.
With a supportive environment and tailored instruction, you'll have the freedom to create unique projects while building a solid foundation in pottery.
What will be covered in this course?
• Fundamental pottery techniques: pinch pots, slab building, and coil building
• Slip and score methods for securely assembling clay pieces
• Guidance on bringing personal project ideas to life
• Practical techniques for designing functional and sculptural works
By the end of this course students will:
Gain confidence in working with clay, applying fundamental pottery techniques
Bring their creative ideas to life through guided instruction and hands-on practice
Learn how to design and build sculptural pottery using a clear, step-by-step process
Develop the skills to approach future clay projects with greater independence
Have the option to return for a glaze workshop

Adults interested in learning or practicing pottery and is Welcome to all skill levels.

Clay, Pottery tools.
Note: Materials, including clay and glaze, are not provided but are available for purchase from the tutor. Firing is an additional cost through WAG.
ABOUT THE TUTOR
Luke is an accomplished ceramic artist and dedicated educator with a deep-rooted passion for pottery. With a Diploma of Ceramics and a Cert IV in adult education, Luke brings both expert knowledge and a strong educational background to his classes. His experience spans wheel throwing, handbuilding, and slipcasting, with work that includes both functional and sculptural ceramics.
Luke’s teaching philosophy centres on fostering creativity and skill development in a supportive environment. His approachable and patient demeanour makes learning pottery accessible and enjoyable for students of all levels. Whether guiding beginners through their first pinch pot or helping advanced students refine their craft, Luke is committed to nurturing each individual's artistic journey.
