Māia is a leading communications studio, co-founded in 2020 by Mihi Blake (Ngāti Tūwharetoa, Ngai Tuhoe, Ngāti Maniapoto) and Bee Stevenson. The mahi of Māia ranges from spearheading a vaccination campaign in the Far North for Ngāti Kuri, to supporting Ezra Hirawani and Ben Armstrong to, building kaupapa Māori energy retailer Nau Mai Rā, to working with independent music artists to provide publicity and marketing support.

In 2023,Māia part of a team who won a prestigious Public Relations Institute Gold award for Government Relations and Public Affairs for the MindTheGap campaign to address gender, Māori, and Pacific peoples’ pay equity issues.

Presenters

Bee Stevenson

Bee Stevenson brings two decades’ experience as a creative, publicist, brand strategist, marketer and writer to head up the Māia cause and Māia conscious commerce pou. With qualifications in journalism, creative writing and creative advertising, Bee has led communications campaigns for a number of national and international brands. She works on creative strategy and brand positioning across all clients, while leading the writing team.

Tilly van Eeden

Tilly van Eeden joined Māia in 2021 after completing her Bachelor of Communication degree at Massey University, where she received a Massey Scholar Award, a Dean’s List Award, and the PRINZ Prize in Public Relations Management. Tilly was behind the #GlowUpShowUp campaign for Rare Disorders and she spearheaded the 2021 launch of the award-winning MindTheGap a pay equity campaign.
