FROM THE ARTIST

"Mythologies help us understand the world, they link us to our histories and reinforce identities. This workshop will explore the mythologies living within us and how they can be turned into a movement-based practice. Beginning with a series of writing exercises focusing on different themes found within mythologies such as transformations, origins and fate, we will go on to explore how creative writing can act as a provocation for generating new movement.

Each workshop will focus on a different theme of mythmaking, meaning you can attend a single or multiple workshops.

Suitable for all levels of dance and writing."

ABOUT TAMARA ELKINS

Born 1987 in Wollongong/Dharawal, Australia. Tamara Elkins completed her Diploma in Fine Arts at TAFE, followed by a Bachelor of Fine Arts Honours from University of New South Wales Art and Design. Elkins has continued to develop her practice with residencies in Buenos Aires and Sydney as well as workshops with Body Weather, NSW Leather Workers Guild and Edinburgh Printmakers. She has also been involved with the Base Metal Performance collective and recently received a mini Space Grant from Critical Path. Working in the mediums of performance, installation, video and textiles, Elkins’ current work looks at the role of narrative and mythmaking.
