Crop Diversity:

A lifeline for resilience, peace, nutrition and food security

📅 Date: 27 March 2025
🕓 Time: 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM
📍 Location: CSIRO Discovery Centre, Canberra

Please join us for an in-depth look at an exciting solution to the challenges facing Australia and the world – crop diversity conservation and use.

Instability, conflict, malnutrition, and climatic change all threaten the future of our food supply. Learn how crop diversity offers a solution and a path to a more stable, secure, resilient, nutritious world.

Co-hosted by the Crop TrustCrawford Fund, and the Australian Grains Genebank, this discussion will explore the value of genebanks in developing resilient crops and securing our food for the future, with speakers covering the topic from global, Australian, farmer and breeder perspectives.

This event also features the launch of the Crawford Fund book “Australia’s Search for Greener PasturesThe Foundations of the Global Genetic Resources Movement, 1926-1980. Internationally recognized agricultural economist Dr Derek Byerlee brings to our attention the relatively unknown Australian role in the development of the global genetic resources movement.

This is your opportunity to hear from thought leaders and connect with the professionals at the forefront of the conservation and availability of crop diversity for food security – globally, in Australia and on the farm.

The panel will be moderated by Crawford Fund board member, Rosemary Deininger and panel members will include:

🌟  Dr Stefan Schmitz, Executive Director, Crop Trust

🌟  Dr Sally Norton, National Leader of the Australian Grains Genebank

🌟  Dr Tony Fischer, Crawford Fund Medal Winner, Crop Scientist, Breeder and Farmer and brother of former Chair of Crop Trust and Crawford Fund, The Hon Tim Fischer.
