In partnership with Rooted SB County

Dates: in-person 8/29 (Santa Barbara) OR 9/5 (Santa Ynez Valley) 9:00am - 12:00pm

and via zoom on 9/26, 10/3 (9:00-12:00pm) and 10/24 (9:00-10:30am)

We ask for your commitment in all four sessions.

Description:

Join us for a series of FREE hands-on culinary and nutrition education classes. Over the course of four Saturdays (3 lessons + 1 Q&A), you’ll spend 1.5 hours with Chef Jill of Apples to Zucchini Cooking School, and 1.5 hours with Mary Galindo from Rooted Santa Barbara County. In the AtoZ session, you’ll learn pro tips to add more fruits, vegetables, and new foods to your preschool classes and activities.

Thanks to a generous donation, this program is totally free for early childhood educators!

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN:

The Rooted Fiber Jumpstart is a fun, interactive 4-part class series created for busy teachers. This series is designed to Make Healthy Choices Easier.

In Lesson 1, you will receive kitchen tools, a water bottle, and ingredients to make it easier and faster to add more water and fiber —even on your hardest teaching days. Join our Zoom classes, and we’ll show you how to use everything to make healthy choices take less time and effort.

We’ll practice mindful eating, celebrate cultural foods, and share ideas that work whether you’re eating in the classroom or at home.

Lesson 1: Fiber, hydration, and building a balanced plate
Lesson 2: Beans—simple, affordable, and familiar ways to add fiber
Lesson 3: Whole grains, nuts, and seeds with easy swaps and no-fuss ideas.

Lesson 4: Q&A

In your Apples to Zucchini in the Classroom sessions, your inner child will discover colors, flavors, textures, and more. Chef Jill brings her infectious enthusiasm for food and learning, and over a decade of cooking and teaching experience to these sessions.

  • Lesson1: The 5 senses and calming our nervous system

  • Lesson 2: Eat the Rainbow

  • Lesson 3: Knife skills, fine motor skills, and different food textures.

  • Lesson 4: Q&A

PLEASE NOTE:

The first class will be in person in the Sb or SYV AtoZ kitchen where you will receive supplies; please wear closed-toe shoes and have your hair tied back.

Subsequent classes will be on Zoom.
