Description

"We notice how our habitual thinking, evaluating, judging, and projecting can diminish our ability to sense the underlying wholeness of the social fabric."
—Arawana Hayashi, Body knowing as a Vehicle for Change, The Arrow Journal, 2019

"Perhaps the most egregious thing we are taught is that we should just be really good at what's aready possible, to leave the impossible alone."
—adrienne maree brown, Emergent Strategy: Shaping Change, Changing Worlds, 2017

Jumping off from the u.lab series this season, we will use our SPT tools to tune our embodied presence, grow our relational awareness and expand our kinesthetic imagination. We'll practice noticing habitual patterns so we can tune into the underlying wholeness of the social fabric, and imagine how this might allow the impossible to become possible.

Series Info:

In this group we will hone our watching, listening, and sensing as a means of advancing equity and social justice, with a different topic each month.  We'll use the gentle movement methods of Arawana Hayashi's Social Presencing Theater (SPT), further informed by a range of trauma-sensitive somatic practices.

We will:

  • Explore simple movement practices that get us out of our heads so we can hear our body wisdom.

  • Become aware of our own presence and of the collective energy of the assembled group, or “Social Field.”

  • Practice non-interpretive, non-judgmental mirroring and feedback with each other.

This is a drop-in practice series, not a sequential curriculum. See separate Humanitx events for each date:

Saturday, November 21, 2026

2027 dates will be posted in December!

And, as always:

  • No prior experience necessary

  • Dress comfortably for movement

  • Come when you can and as you are - tired, energized, calm, frazzled or any other way

  • Bring a journal or something to write on and with
