This course will aim to enable participants to:

Understand and practice serenity meditation
Understand and practice benevolence /loving kindness, compassion, appreciative joy and equanimity as meditation practices as well as ways of being in daily life
Understand ways to transform painful emotions to sublime states of kindness, compassion, joy and peace.
Enhance harmonious and warm relationships with oneself and others
Approach difficult relationships with self and other using warm friendliness, compassion, appreciation, gratitude and equanimity

Who is this course suitable for? If you aspire to the above aims, you will be most welcome to join this course. However, previous experience with meditation with an understanding of mindfulness is a requirement. This course will be suitable for those experiencing milder forms of stress, anxiety and depression. The course would also be helpful for therapists, educators and programme leaders wishing to broaden their skills and understanding. Given the online nature of this course, this course is not suitable for those with psychiatric conditions who may need acute care.

Format:The sessions will include meditation training and practice, power point presentations, experiential exercises, small group (breakout room) and large group (gallery view) discussion, optional movements and home practices. We will have a 10 minutes offline break around the middle of each session.

Main facilitator : Mal is a clinical psychologist in private practice based in Lismore NSW. He has been a Buddhist meditation practitioner for nearly 45 years, including two years as a Buddhist monk in Thailand in the 1970s. He has taught mindfulness and related practices such as loving kindness and compassion in Australia and overseas to clinical populations, the public and professionals since 1991. He has trained in a range of contemporary mindfulness and compassion based therapies and written and conducted many mindfulness and related practices courses and workshops. Co-facilitator: Lisa Brown is a Psychologist, Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR) facilitator, Mindful Self Compassion (MSC) teacher and yoga teacher. She works in private practice in Coffs Harbour and teaches MBSR and MSC groups as well as classes in Trauma Sensitive Yoga. Dates and times:

Six consecutive Monday evenings beginning 6pm Australian Eastern Daylight Time (AEDT-Sydney time zone), April 12th 2021.
An optional online day of meditation on May 1st, 9:00am till 3:00pm (AEDT)

Fee for course:

The general fee is $360 + 4% booking fee for the 6 session course. For those experiencing financial disadvantage the fee is $210 + 4% booking fee. If one also registered for the the healing the heart-mind with insight course, there is a 16% discount off these fees.

A dana based option is available for those who may not be able to pay a fee and or for those who prefer to give in this way. Dana refers to an economy of generosity. In this way, participants can reciprocate financially for the teachings provided with an amount that realistically reflects both their gratitude for the gift that has been offered as well as their budget. Details about how to give dana will be provided after booking.
