Cultural Connections: Cultural Awareness Day

Come along and learn from Traditional Owners about traditional practice and cultural protocols at Burraja- an Indigenous cultural and environmental discovery centre located right here on the Border. Experience a smoking ceremony, learn about cultural awareness in a safe space, take a guided river walk and taste some bush foods. Learn about traditional tools and weapons, spend some time in the women's weaving circle or learn to knap stone tools in the men's space.

Places are limited, bookings essential.  

Please note: participation in the weaving and knapping activities are limited to children 10 years and older. Children under this age will be able to attend these activities but not participate. 

WHERE AND WHEN: 10am - 3pm, Friday 1st November, Burraja, Gateway Island.

  • Morning Tea and lunch are provided
  • Physical Fitness Level Required:  EASY- MEDIUM ( Sitting/ standing for a periods of 45mins  or more, walking for 1/2 hour or more, knapping & spear throwing requires physical strength).

  • WHAT TO BRING:

    - Water bottle.

    - Camp chair or picnic blanket to sit on

    - Weather appropriate clothing, sunscreen and a hat

    - If you are unwell on the day please remain at home in consideration of the health of others

    Due to our limited funding it is difficult to cater for every dietary requirement at our events. If you have special dietary requirements please bring your own food and drink.
