YOUTH MOB - Cultural Camp - Murrayfield Bruny Island
Event description
Youth Mob
Youth Mob is a newly established youth network for Aboriginal people aged 16-24 living in southern Tasmania. Beginning as a two-year pilot program it is autonomous and youth led. That’s right. YOU can help create and shape YOUR mob and learn about leadership, mentoring, enterprise development, public speaking, event organisation and connecting with culture. For more information and to join: www.youthmob.com.au
Murrayfield Camp, Bruny Island
Pack your gear, join an Aboriginal Elder, explore country, learn to weave, dive for seafood, explore Truganini's country and much more.
The Shearer’s Quarters at Murrayfield are booked. Murrayfield has over 500 cultural sites and was originally the home of Truganini and her people the Nuenonne. Murrayfield is a sheep station and recently independent control was given to local Aboriginal group Weetapoona Aboriginal Corporation.Â
Youth Mob members need to bring all camping gear (e.g. sleeping bag/pillow, including wetsuits/bathers/towel, sunhat/beanie, raincoat, and appropriate clothing). Elder Uncle Rodney Dillon will host us on his lands for the camp.
Meet at Bruny Island Ferry Terminal, Kettering, 9am, Friday, December 8. Back at the terminal Saturday, 4pm, Dec 9.Â
Friday-Saturday, 8-9 December 2023
