Cultural Safety Workshop for Members and RAP Partners
Event description
Our 2024-25 cultural safety learning event for members is here!
Reconciliation Tasmania has recently developed a new cultural safety workshop, Walking Your Talk, which builds on the historical learning from Come Walk With Us.
In Come Walk With Us, participants learn about the Tasmanian timeline before and since colonisation, and the continuing effects of government policies on Tasmanian Aboriginal people and their communities.
In Walking Your Talk, Reconciliation Tasmania facilitator and proud palawa man Duncan Robinson will work with participants to move beyond mere knowledge of our history - exploring the meaning and significance of ‘cultural awareness’, ‘cultural safety’ and ‘cultural competence’, and learning skills to put these important concepts into practice.
Learning outcomes - Walking Your Talk:
- Understanding of the meaning and significance of ‘cultural awareness’, ‘cultural safety’, and ‘cultural competence’
- Deeper understanding of the lived experience of Tasmanian Aboriginal people, through history and today, and how this can affect interactions between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people
- Awareness of available pathways to learn more about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, cultures, knowledges and histories
All participants will receive a digital certificate of completion, and resources for further learning. Participants will also be invited to complete a short pre- and post-workshop questionnaire to evaluate your learning, and to provide you with opportunities to ask questions and/or give feedback.
For members who have not previously completed Come Walk With Us (also known as Gumnuts to Buttons), Duncan will also be running a Come Walk With Us workshop the week before.
