Regional Development Australia Eyre Peninsula, the Local Jobs Program North West Country SA and Northern Water are pleased to host this cultural understanding for recruitment and retention workshop across the Upper Spencer Gulf and the Eyre Peninsula for local businesses.

Our delivery partner, KWY Aboriginal Corporation, will provide a tailored workshop aimed at improving recruitment and retention of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. This training provides localised, culturally appropriate education and support to increase understanding and knowledge of Indigenous people in the workplace for employers, job seekers and new employees.

It will provide will provide tangible strategies to recruit and retain Indigenous employees, including:

Cultural awareness and sensitivity: Gain an understanding of cultural backgrounds, customs, beliefs, and values of employees from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Communication skills: Develop effective communication to build strong relationships with employees, particularly those from different cultural backgrounds.·
Conflict resolution: Build techniques to manage conflicts & build consensus among team members from different cultural backgrounds.
Recruitment and retention: Plan strategies to attract and retain employees from diverse cultural backgrounds by creating a welcoming and inclusive workplace culture.
Workplace policies and procedures: Learn about legal requirements and best practices for creating a workplace that is free from discrimination, harassment, and other forms of bias.

This workshop is limited to 20 registrations and has been subsidised by RDAEP, the Local Jobs Program and Northern Water. As such, you must be operating in the area to register (if demand is greater than places, please join the waitlist and we will do our best to coordinate additional workshop opportunities for later in 2024).

About our workshop program partner: Northern Water are pleased to be partnering with Regional Development Australia Eyre Peninsula to support delivery of the Cultural Competency Training program.

The Northern Water project aims to provide a new, sustainable water source for the Far North, Upper Spencer Gulf and Eastern Eyre Peninsula regions of South Australia to enable the growth of industries crucial to achieving net-zero goals, including the emerging green energy and hydrogen industries. This would involve construction and operation of a seawater desalination plant at Cape Hardy near Tumby Bay connected to northern South Australia via up to 600km of pipeline.

Northern Water is expected to create around 800 new construction jobs and around 40 ongoing operations and maintenance roles across the Far North, Upper Spencer Gulf and Eyre Peninsula regions. Our goal is to build skills and experience across the Far North, Upper Spencer Gulf and Eyre Peninsula regions, create jobs for local workers and generate new business opportunities for local businesses. Subject to approvals and a final investment decision, detailed design and construction is scheduled to occur between 2025 and 2028.

Initiatives such as the Cultural Competency Training program are important in supporting local businesses and local workers benefit from participation in projects such as Northern Water. We look forward to joining you in the delivery of this program.
