CULTURAL WALK with Drew Longbottom

Visual Arts in the Valley Festival 2026

Invites you to a join us on a

CULTURAL WALK

through the Chakola Wildlife Conservation Park, Kangaroo Valley

with local language custodian Drew Longbottom.

This immersive experience allows you to explore significant sites, learn local knowledge, and reflect on First Nations people’s relationship with the land and waterways.

On arrival, participants will be welcomed to country followed by a smoking ceremony before commencing the walk.

Participants will have the opportunity to hear from, and discuss topics on the banks of the Kangaroo River including ;

• Traditional plant observation and description of use (including possible tasting if ripe!)

• Cultural identity and connection to country

• Dharrawal language interpretation and sharing

• Description of purpose obligation through totemic identity, barter/trade and kinship

• Dreaming story regarding the Kangaroo Valley area

The walk is graded Medium. There is a section of rugged steps down but nothing too treacherous.

Children (from 8yrs and above) are welcome if supervised by adults.

Maximum 30 participants.

It is recommended that you bring enough water for the walk and comfortable sturdy walking shoes, insect repellent and a hat.
