Culture & Colour : Mehendi(Henna), Manjha - UNSW Punjabi Society
Event description
Step into Punjabi culture with two fun and interactive workshops! In the Mehendi (Henna) session 🖐🏽, you’ll have the chance to create your own henna designs, with helpers on hand to guide you through patterns and techniques. Along the way, you’ll also learn about the cultural significance of Mehendi (Henna), from its role in celebrations to the stories and traditions behind the art.
Next, dive into Manjha making 🧵! Using yarn and sticks, you’ll craft your very own mini version of the traditional Punjabi woven bed. Through this activity, you’ll get a feel for the patterns, colours, and weaving methods that make the Manjha such a central feature in Punjabi households. At the end, you’ll not only have a handmade keepsake to take home but also a deeper connection to the creativity and traditions of Punjabi culture.
