At Ministry’s first “Slow Saturday”, we invite you to be a part of a group exploring a disciplined approach to Clearness Meetings, more helpfully known as Meetings for Worship for Clearness.

Despite Quaker documents about the clearness meetings, there is little evidence of consistency in the conduct of these gatherings, with the result that they have not been consistently useful, and a few reports that they have been occasions of considerable distress for the focus person.

Through extensive experience and systematic reflection, American Quaker Parker Palmer and colleagues at the Center for Courage & Renewal have developed a disciplined approach to clearness meetings that is designed to be a trustworthy space for the focus person, and to maximise opportunities for a fruitful experience.

This ‘Slow Saturday’ is an introduction to this CC&R method, and to practise its central skill.

Facilitated by Dorothy Broom (VRM) and Drew Thomas (TRM), both of whom have undergone preparation as Courage & Renewal facilitators.
