Description

Readers often say that characters are their favourite part of a story. We look at bite size character descriptions that rock to inspire your own writing and excite your readers.

Curious Writers Workshops, with editors Lu Sexton and Stephanie Preston, are part workshop, part book club for writers (and readers) who want to delve into the alchemy of writing by exploring elements of craft. This is our third year at Words in Winter and we're thrilled to be back.

Lineup

  • Meet Lu

    Meet Lu

Lu Sexton is a writing coach and editor who has worked with debut novelists since 2014. Her mission is to help writers bring out the best in their work and move closer to publication. Lu developed her coaching method through years of working with new writers, offering manuscript appraisals in a workshop setting rather than as a written report. She is an Accredited Editor with the Institute of Professional Editors accreditation scheme, Australia's only professional accreditation standard for editors. She co-hosts the Curious Writers Workshops with fellow editor Stephanie Preston, presenting themed writing workshops online and at festivals including the last two Words in Winters.

  • Meet Stephanie

    Meet Stephanie

Stephanie Preston’s love for words runs long. She works with writers to polish their prose and prepare it for readers, offering copyediting, plain language services, Word formatting, and manuscript assessments. She also develops and co-hosts writers’ workshops. Based in Melbourne, Stephanie has worked in television, local government, public health, transport, performing arts, and communications. She holds tertiary degrees in publishing, media, and public relations and is accredited by the Institute of Professional Editors (IPEd).
