This course is free to attend however registration is essential as places are limited. Registration includes a light lunch before the program and networking drinks and canapes at the conclusion of the program

Course purpose

The course will provide an update on how to manage some of the more challenging aspects of orthognathic surgery including: treating facial asymmetry, TMJ pathologies including condylar hyperplasia, condylar resorption, combined TMJ and orthognathic surgery and Cleft orthognathic surgery. There will also be an interactive step-by-step live demo session on Virtual Surgical Planning.

Target audience

The course is designed for maxillofacial trainees and consultants with interest in advancing their knowledge in orthognathic surgery. The combination of theory and group interaction will allow for intensive discussions and maximum educational benefit.

Faculty Biography

Alfred G (Eddy) Becking

Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Professor Eddy Becking is director of the residency training program in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Amsterdam University Medical Centre, and the Academic Centre for Dentistry Amsterdam (ACTA), the Netherlands. He was trained in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (1992) at the VU medical center in Amsterdam. He is full professor in growth and developmental disorders of the oral and maxillofacial region the Amsterdam University Medical Center and ACTA since 2011. From 2014-2020 he was international chairman of the Strasbourg Osteosynthesis Research Group (S.O.R.G.) Since 2003, he is president of the board of the Dutch Association for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. His clinical and scientifical interests are facial asymmetry, orthognathic surgery, orbito-craniofacial surgery and reconstruction including computer assisted planning and navigational surgery. He authored over 100 scientific peer-reviewed publications and book chapters and he is a renowned international invitational lecturer.

Christian Freudlsperger

Auckland, New Zealand

Professor Christian Freudlsperger is a consultant surgeon at Te Toka Tumai Hospital , Auckland New Zealand, and Associate Professor (Honorary) , University of Heidelberg, Germany

Christian was until recently, Associate Professor and Vice Chairman at the Department of Oral and Cranio-maxillofacial Surgery, University Hospital Heidelberg. He trained in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University Hospital Tuebingen , followed by an 18-month Fellowship at the Head and Neck Surgery Branch, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, USA and completed his training at the Department of Oral and Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgery, University Hospital Heidelberg.

His main clinical and scientific activities are Orthognathic Surgery and Reconstructive Surgery with a special interest in three-dimensional virtual imaging and surgical planning. Prof. Freudlsperger is Author and Co-author of multiple articles in national and international peer-reviewed publications, and he is an international invitational lecturer on Orthognathic Surgery and Craniofacial Reconstruction.

Dr Lydia Lim

Sydney, Australia

Dr Lydia Lim is currently the Head of Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Westmead Hospital. She is a consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead. She completed her OMFS specialty training in Sydney followed by a surgical fellowship in the United States at the University of Texas, Houston. She has a special interest in Orthognathic Surgery including cleft and congenital deformities. She is actively involved as an educator to the next generation of surgeons via her appointments at Westmead and Children’s Hospitals, as well as her role as an Honorary Associate of the Discipline of Orthodontics at University of Sydney where she teaches Orthognathic Surgery.

Dr Patrishia Bordbar

Melbourne, Australia

Dr Patrishia Bordbar is the Immediate Past President of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons (ANZAOMS) and a Member of the IAOMS Executive Committee. She is a consultant surgeon at The Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne and Western Hospital. She holds honorary positions at The Royal Melbourne Hospital and The University of Melbourne. In addition to her specialist training, she has undertaken a further Fellowship in Paediatric Craniofacial Surgery in the UK. She is an examiner with the RACDS and is dedicated to teaching the next generation through her roles including that as Director of the Epworth/Monash Cranio-Maxillofacial Fellowship. She has a special interest in treating patients with congenital cleft and craniofacial deformities, trauma, and orthognathic surgery.

Dr Ricky Kumar

Melbourne, Australia

Dr Ricky Kumar holds appointments as a consultant surgeon at The Royal Melbourne Hospital, Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne and Monash Health (Clayton and Dandenong Hospitals). He is also an honorary consultant at the Royal Children’s Hospital of Melbourne. Dr Kumar completed his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgical training in Adelaide . He then undertook 12 months sub-specialty training in paediatric maxillofacial surgery and corrective jaw surgery as a fellowship at Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne and another 12 months as a clinical fellow at Oxford University Hospitals in UK where he received specialised training in paediatric maxillofacial surgery and TMJ surgery. His sub-specialty interest areas are paediatric maxillofacial surgery, corrective jaw surgery and TMJ surgery.
