Discover the creative world of zine-making in this hands-on workshop with poet and zine-maker Rowan Taigel of Guerrilla Poetry. Using just a single sheet of A3 paper, you'll learn how to create your own eight-page DIY zine - no staplers, fancy equipment, or previous experience required.
A zine is a self-made mini-publication that can be about anything: poems, drawings, lists, observations, collage, stories, secret thoughts, inside jokes, or a one-page manifesto. Guided step by step through a simple folding technique, you'll then have the freedom to make your zine your own.
This workshop celebrates ideas over perfection and voice over polish. Whether your style is bold, thoughtful, playful, or quietly reflective, you'll be encouraged to experiment, create, and share what matters to you.
All materials are provided - just bring your curiosity.
By the end of the session, you'll leave with your own handmade zine and the confidence to keep creating long after the workshop ends.

Recommended for all ages. Children under 15 should attend with a parent or caregiver.
Ordinary Wonders includes a five-week programme of FREE workshops, performances, conversations, film screenings, and creative activities designed to celebrate connection, belonging, and the memories that shape our lives.
All events are FREE, but registration is encouraged, with limited places available for some workshops.
About Rowan Taigel:
Rowan Taigel is a Nelson-based poet, collage artist, and educator whose work has been widely published in literary journals and anthologies throughout Aotearoa New Zealand and internationally. Her poetry has been recognised in several competitions, and she has appeared as a guest poet at the Christchurch WORD Festival and facilitated creative workshops for events including Nelson Fringe Festival and MakeIt Festival.
Working under the name Guerrilla Poetry, Rowan creates handmade poetry zines and collage artworks that celebrate storytelling, identity, and everyday moments. Alongside her artistic practice, she is a secondary school teacher and deputy principal, bringing extensive experience facilitating poetry, collage, and zine-making workshops that encourage people of all ages to experiment with creative expression and tell the stories that matter.
