Cyanotype & Anthotype Workshop
Event description
‘Anthotype’ loosely translates to ‘flower print’, it is a form of image making that uses juices of plants and flowers as dying substances. Cyanotype is another form of camera-less sun printing that contributed to the invention of photography. Sir John Herschel made significant discoveries in anthotype and cyanotype printing processes, exploring light sensitive substances and their reactions with plants, the surrounding environment, and atmospheric forces. The workshop will introduce you to the history of the processes and demonstrate methods to create anthotypes (plant-based emulsion) and cyanotypes (chemical-based emulsion) at home. In the workshop, you will make your own artwork by experimenting with sustainable photographic printing processes through foraging, collaging and toning images.
