Cyanotype workshop

Learn from artist Raimond de Weerdt about the historic Cyanotype printing process. Participants of this workshop will use botanical specimens, lace, doylies and other common household objects to create one of a kind prints.

These working methods are the same as used by Anna Atkins, the first woman in history to illustrate a book with blue prints back in 1843. Regardless of one’s artistic practice or choice of medium, the cyanotype process can offer a way of creating images for multiple uses, such as unique works on fine art paper or material such as silk. Cyanotypes can be used to make bespoke cards and books. The creative possibilities are endless.

Students bring along their own watercolour paper (paper is available for purchase on the day) and a range of objects, for example: flowers, leaves, lace or black and white negatives to create images from. All other materials are supplied by the workshop organiser.

This introductory workshop will teach you the skills and techniques to create your very own Cyanotype images using this historic and fascinating process. Participants will take home a collection of Cyanotypes created in the workshop.
