Event description
DA WORKSHOP TĀMAKI MAKAURAU
Elevating Design Leadership: From Manager to Coach
Do you manage people or lead a team in your role?
Design Assembly presents a workshop to support you to navigate the challenges and opportunities you face leading people in your work. We all can remember the best and the worst boss we ever had. If your job is only as good as your boss, how do we give our leaders the right skills to support their people well?
In a profession that thrives on innovation, collaboration, and pushing the boundaries of creativity, your role goes beyond just being a manager of people. It’s about becoming a coach, a mentor, and a catalyst for growth. If people grow, studios and the work grows. The ability to lead, inspire, and guide your people can make all the difference.
In this workshop, we will focus on practical strategies to help you transition from being a manager to a coach by giving you essential skills such as;
- Setting clear expectations
- Briefing designers effectively to get great results
- Supporting your team with sensitivity. How do adapt your style to theirs to get the best from them
- Tackling potential sticking points and overcoming problems
- How to give constructive feedback to allow the design process and project to keep moving forward. The best managers set individualized expectations and give individualized feedback
- Discover how to align your leadership approach with your team’s needs and aspirations, ensuring that you not only get the results you desire but also nurture a culture of growth and creativity
Join us on this transformation and get ready to unleash the true potential of your design leadership skill set.

Previous workshops' feedback from the DA community:
"I found the example coaching questions included very helpful and will try to incorporate them in to my catch-ups with my team. I would be keen on my team also doing the questionnaire for themselves as I found there were helpful insights in my report and was surprised by some of them." - Mary Adams, Pōneke workshop attendee
"Smaller group, workshopping with different partners, Jase kept it very work-related. It was very encouraging and motivating." - Camilla Lau, Pōneke workshop attendee
