Joan Dark is an Austin, TX based electronic artist blending acid, bouncy techno, hardgroove, hard techno, and trance into a sound that is playful, hyperfeminine, and unrelentingly intense. Drawing inspiration from The Avalanches, J Dilla, DJ Shadow, and 90s hip-hop, she incorporates live vinyl sampling into both her production and performance workflow, building tactile collages that reframe nostalgic dance eras through a contemporary rave lens
Her tracks fuse precision-engineered rhythms with immersive emotional depth, reflecting her dual background as an audio engineer and PhD working at the intersection of AI and medicine. The result is music that feels both technically sharp and viscerally alive.
Her latest EP, Anubis (Psyonik Records) in collaboration with Jenna Shaw, received support from EDM Maniac, Richie Hawtin, Dax J, Joseph Capriati, Godtripper, Selective Response, and hard techno high priestess Sara Landry.
Beyond the booth, she is the founder of NGHTLGHT (@nghtlght.media), an Austin-based record label and event series dedicated to championing underground electronic music and cultivating an inclusive, community-driven creative space.
