Dam Discovery – Nurture the nature in your wetland or farm dam
Event description
Join us on a discovery walk of four farm dams that have been restored into havens for wildlife. Get inspired to bring nature back to your dam. Learn about the native plants that are best for your dam/wetland and how to identify the animals that use this important habitat. There will also be some great tips on how you can return water to the environment and how you can set up an inexpensive syphoning system to get water to livestock. Even if you don’t live on a farm but have an interest in native plants and animals, this discovery walk will broaden your knowledge about creating/managing wetland habitats.
Everyone that comes along will receive a voucher for native tube-stock at Kersbrook Landcare Nursery, and there will be prizes on the discovery walk for the best ID of native plants and animals. For those that are really keen, there will be fencing grants of up to $500 to protect ten farm dams… first in best dressed! (*conditions apply, call 8391 7500 for details)
The discovery walk will cover:
· Wetland plant ID and planting
· Frog and reptile ID
· Bird ID
· Syphoning system demonstration
Please bring gum boots, hat, drink bottle, keep-cup and folding chair.
A free morning tea will be provided.
