Dam Good Water
Description
Dam Good Water: Enhancing Farm Dams is a practical, farmer-focused workshop for farmers, graziers and landholders wanting to improve the value, function and resilience of their farm dams.
Participants will learn how livestock access can affect dam water quality, bank stability and greenhouse gas emissions, and explore simple options for fencing, off-stream watering, revegetation and managing dam catchments. The workshop will also look at how to identify which dams are best suited to enhancement and how to prioritise works across a property.
Presented by Dr Martino Malerba from the Centre for Nature Positive Solutions at RMIT University, the session will explain current research into farm dam greenhouse gas emissions, future credit opportunities, and the practical ways enhanced dams can support farm productivity, biodiversity and environmental outcomes.
The day includes an indoor session at the Uralla Community Centre and a field visit to a local property to see farm dam enhancement ideas in practice. Participants will leave with practical information, local examples and next steps they can consider for their own dams.
This event is suited to farmers and landholders with existing dams who would like to enhance or measure the greenhouse gases emissions from them, or anyone planning fencing, revegetation, water security, biodiversity or natural capital projects.
All welcome. Catering provided.
Attendees are eligible to apply for funding from Southern New England Landcare Ltd for a Farm Dam Enhancement Project on their farm.
This workshop is the second of three events under the Revive & Thrive: Future Ready Farm Dams Project, supported by the NSW Government through the Landcare Enabling Program Phase 3 Innovations and Partnerships Grant Program.
