Event description

The Elias Ladino Ensemble is excited to bring the music of the Jews of Spain back to the store!

Since 1976, the Ensemble has been playing Sephardic music at concerts and festivals across the world.

Daniel Elias, a founding member of the group, learned the Jewish music in the oral tradition, as it was passed from his grandmother to his father. Maurice Sedacca also hails from a family of Sephardic musicians. His mother and grandfather performed these songs as well. Together with Percussionist Casey Bond and bass player Marco Behm, the Ensemble will play songs not often heard in Ossining!

The songs are in the Ladino language - a Spanish/Jewish language that evolved after the Jews were expelled from Spain. These are songs of love and lust, drinking and disappointment, wedding songs and circumcision songs. Some date back to ancient Spain, while others reveal melodies and rhythms of the Balkan and Middle Eastern communities where they lived in exile.
