Hello wonderful person!

It is such a pleasure to have you here, curious to learn Forró, curious to deepen your connection with the dance, and excited to grow!

In these classes, we will be focusing on rhythm, flow, and technique, building the foundations from which we can grow upon to play more with the music. We will also be focusing on connection – with a partner, with the music, and most importantly with yourself. Through these aspects, we will unlock more flow and creativity in your dancing.

What is Forró?

Forró is a popular partner dance from the northeast of Brazil, which is still to this day deeply interwoven with peoples' way of life. In class, we will explore the many textures, instruments, and rhythms in Forró music and touch on the cultural influences to the music & dance style. Although I am not Brazilian, I want to acknowledge the deep link Forró still holds to its roots, and invite more people to enjoy this wonderful dance and genre of music.

The Levels:

Intermediate is for people with a background in Forró dancing. We will be rethinking the moves you already know, understanding how to embody good technique to allow you to more freely experiment with your dance and more deeply connect.

We will then have a 15 minute practice session that all class attendees are welcome to join.

Beginners/Open Level is for anyone who is interested in Forró – no prior knowledge is required. You do not need to have a partner to join us! Absolute beginners can join up until week 3 (14/09). This class is also perfect for people who know Forró, but want to learn the other role (lead or follow), want to further refine their technique, rhythm, and solidify their foundations.

Classes are every Monday.

Term 1: 30 September - 4 November (6 weeks)
I strongly encourage students to commit for a 6 week term. Consistency is invaluable for deep learning.

6:45 - 7:45pm   Intermediate
7:45 - 8:00pm   Practice - All Levels
8:00 - 9:00pm   Beginners/Open Level
