Dance the Elements- 5 Elements & Archetypes

Dance the Elements is an invitation to journey through the seasonal wisdom of Chinese medicine and awaken the elemental energies that live within us.

Drawing on the Five Elements—Fire, Earth, Metal, Water, and Wood—this immersive ecstatic dance experience explores the natural cycles of life, the seasons within us, and the different qualities of the archetypes connected through the body.

Each element offers its own medicine and archetypal energy:

• Fire · The Lover— joy, connection, warmth, expression, and celebration

• Earth · The Mother — grounding, support, nourishment, belonging, and care

• Metal · The Alchemist — clarity, discernment, grief, higher truth & inspiration

• Water · The Sage— depth, stillness, intuition, wisdom & courage

• Wood · The Visionary & Warrior — growth, vision, movement, creativity, direction, and possibility

Together, we’ll journey through the seasonal cycle—beginning with the grounding of Earth through to the expansive growth of Wood, arriving in the heart and fire as we welcome in the warmth and radiance of Summer as it draws closer.

This is an invitation to move with the seasonal wheel—to honour both the outward seasons of expression and the inward seasons of rest, reflection, and renewal & explore how these elemental qualities are experienced within us.

Expect a rich, immersive soundscape inspired by the distinct qualities of each element: organic rhythms and expansive textures for Wood, vibrant and uplifting sounds for Fire, grounding bass and nourishing grooves for Earth, spacious and crystalline soundscapes for Metal, and deep, fluid, atmospheric journeys for Water.

Together, we’ll move from grounding and inner listening into full-bodied expression, connection, play, release, and transformation—before gently returning to stillness and integration through a restorative stillness.

There are no steps to learn and no way to get it wrong. You are invited to meet each element in your own way and discover what wants to move, awaken, soften, release, or be witnessed.

Come exactly as you are, and allow the seasons within you to move.

This is an alcohol-free event / LGBTQI+ friendly / 18+ event.

Once the music has begun, we encourage you to keep talking to a minimum so everyone can fully immerse themselves in the embodied experience.

Please note, although we are using a church hall, this is a non-religious, non-denominational event.

ABOUT US

The Canberra Ecstatic Dance Collective’s monthly dance offering is a safe and supportive space to express, release, reconnect, and experience joy through movement.

Each month features a unique theme and facilitator while holding a consistent container of respect, consent, authentic expression, and embodied exploration within our vibrant dance community.

Each dance is lovingly curated as a transformational journey—beginning with grounding, gradually building in energy, expanding into freedom and expression, before gently guiding you back into stillness and integration.

There are no steps to learn and no way to get it wrong. This is an invitation to move from the inside out.

You may find yourself reaching toward new possibilities like Wood, radiating warmth and joy like Fire, settling into the nourishment of Earth, releasing what is no longer needed through Metal, or descending into the deep stillness and wisdom of Water.

You might glide gently, move with powerful intensity, connect with the Earth beneath you, share a consensual dance with another, rest in stillness, or allow emotion to flow freely through your body.

Whatever is authentically alive within you is welcome here.
