Dancestors Winter Solstice Ecstatic Dance
Event description
Dancestors is an ode to our Ancestors, our relatives, who share this world with us.
The Winter Solstice is the time for the darkest day of the year, the most darkness and shadow is present. Things at this time of year can often feel hazy, distorted, and unclear, in an almost womblike dream realm where things shapeshifter and may have a heavy slowness to them. However, in the story of the Oak and Holly King, the light prevails over the dark at the exact moment of the deepest darkness. The seed of light is always present within the black heart. This is true on a collective and individual level. We continue to come together, pray, dance, and love each other despite the black heart that shows itself in the trying times of our modern reality. The true moment of our triumph is the moment when things seem the most bleak and shadowed, yet we are able to rise up together.
We will be providing a delicious and uplifting brew of traditional Wassail for the solstice. A drink that has been offered for generations as a prayer to the warmer times and the abundance of trees with an enlivening energy of gratitude and jovial blessings. We will do a communal welcoming ritual with boughs of trees to call each person in to the space so we are held and ready to be together.
The DJed mix (by DJ Father Otter) will be a foray into inspirational music from around the world that invokes connection to unfamiliar, dormant, or alienated parts of the self, to bring us into emotional, physical, and spiritual coherence. Dancing in cohesion with our Ancestors and the self can invoke powerful release and transformation. We will take time to pray, meditate, and sing together with the spirit of cacao and Kaitlyn, James, and Nash. Then we move into a building dance journey. After getting into the dance trance , the journey will culminate with a powerful live drumming session, leading us upward, and outward, cultivating a poignant intentional vibration together.
A lilting energizing story songscape by Nash Atkins, James Bird, and community will wrap you in its warm embrace to close the journey of this chapter.Prepare to be opened, interwoven, and healed through this night of powerful rejuvenation.
An incredibly curated seasonal altar prepared by Kaitlyn Cronin will be offered to sit with during the dance. The studio lighting is gorgeous and gives a highlighted and glow-in-the-dark journey. Aerial hammocks silks are available for a whole new floating glowing rhythmic experience.
Please remove pointy or sharp zippers, sequins, jewelry etc. from your body and clothing before entering the silks.
We require a waiver to be in the silks for the liability of the studio.
Don't forget to bring your drums for the post dance drumming!
