Daniela Scaccabarozzi is a pollination biologist and ecologist. Her research field spans from plant-animal interactions (predominantly bees) through key floral signals, biology of orchids, and pollination applied to agro-ecological models. Key crops on which she has been focused are vanilla and cacao. In addition, she investigated the composition, biodiversity, and human health implications of bee products, among these honey, bee venom, nectar, pollen, and bee provision.
After winning an Endeavour Fellowship Program by the Australian government, DS completed a dual Ph.D. between the University of Naples Federico II and Curtin University of Perth with Kings Park and Botanic Garden on the pollination biology of a group of Australian orchids and pea plants. Daniela works as a post doc research fellow at Uppsala University, Sweden and is a research associate at Curtin University of Perth.
She conducted and contributed to several discoveries on the pollination of the SW Australian and neotropical orchids (Diuris species, Pterostylis, Vanilla), publishing on highly regarded scientific Journals such as Annals of Botany and the Botanical Journal of the Linnaean Society. She is currently investigating the pollination strategy of the Queen of Sheba Orchid a rare and emblematic species endemic to SW Australia.
