Darebin Creek Welcome to Country and planting day Bundoora
Event description
Uncle Dave Wandin, an Elder of the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung community, will lead a Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony on the first day of NAIDOC Week. Following this, the community will come together to plant indigenous trees and shrubs along Darebin Creek, located North of Greenhills Road. The planting efforts will be guided by DCMC and Whittlesea staff. These indigenous plantings aim to enhance the corridor from Norris Banks Reserve extending to the already established indigenous vegetation north of Greenhills Road. This initiative will play a crucial role in providing a habitat for small woodland birds and other wildlife. The ecological restoration project is made possible through the collaborative efforts of local community volunteers, the City of Whittlesea, and the Darebin Creek Management Committee. Additionally, for those interested in enjoying a cup of coffee, remember to bring a keep cup, as there will be an option to grab a coffee from Bec's Choc Bomb. Please note that there will be a Porta Loo available on site for convenience.
