Come and join the Friends of Darebin Creek and Banyule Council Park Rangers to plant 2000 indigenous Kangaroo Grasses (Themeda triandra) and help contribute to the restoration of a critically endangered ecosystem along Darebin Creek at the Banyule Northern Grassland Reserve.

The grassland forms part of the Darebin Creek Trail Park, an important wildlife corridor between Darebin Creek and the Yarra River.

This 6-hectare reserve’s main vegetation community is plains grassy woodland and is comprised of many plant species unique within Banyule. Most of the remnant vegetation within the reserve belongs to the ecological community Grassy Eucalypt Woodland of the Victorian Volcanic Plain. It is listed as endangered under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act, with less than 5% of this ecological community remains.

Planting Volunteering

All ages are welcome and tools will be provided. Please dress in appropriate clothing/footwear/hat and bring some drinking water.

This is a free event and registration is not required but planting events are often subject to weather conditions. By registering to this event, we can keep you updated in case of any last-minute changes.

Approximately 600m north of the entrance via the corner of Dougharty Road and Liberty Parade, Heidelberg West.

Signage will be displayed on the day of the event.
