Daring Greatly™
Event description
Daring Greatly™ is an experiential program developed by Dr. Brené Brown based on her research on vulnerability, trust, shame, empathy and courage.
This series of 4 workshops explore Brené's research and its relevance in our own lives. Each session consists of a short video in which Brené outlines key concepts, and activities to apply and practise the skills she covers.
The aim of the program is to move us towards more authentic and wholehearted living by understanding our own vulnerability and learning to live more courageously.
This program will be facilitated by mental health professionals Julia Crook and Sue Crock. Sue is a Certified Daring Way ™ and Dare to Lead™ Facilitator.
The cost includes workbook, materials and lunch each day.
If you would like to find out more about Brené Brown’s work, we recommend you watch her two TED talks, The Power of Vulnerability and Listening to Shame. These are an excellent introduction to her research and the topics we will explore in this program.
ABOUT THE FACILITATORS
Sue Crock
My work in mental health as a social worker and educator has taken me into many different settings: schools, communities, TAFEs, universities and workplaces. In recent years I’ve been most interested in how we can stay mentally well and support our wellbeing. That’s why I love Brené Brown’s research. It helps me understand shame and vulnerability and how they relate to mental health. It led me to train with Brené and become certified to facilitate her programs. However, life has been my greatest teacher: as a parent and step parent, and living with the impact of mental illness and suicide in my family. Music, learning, yoga, spending time with special people and playing with my grandchildren are some of the things I love.
Julia Crook
I like to be called Julz or Crook. I have specialised in community mental health nursing in both clinical and educational settings. I have BSc degrees in Health Science and Community Health; MA degree in Health Professional Education and a P.G. Dip. in Research and Health Development. My research topics have included Clinical Decision Making and the History of Heathcote Hospital. I am a wife, mother, grandmother, and a general, mental health and child health nurse. I am very excited about this training and know first hand the power of applying Brené Brown's work to the way we live.
