Bringing our best into 2021

The impact of the current global pandemic has been significant for the gender-based violence and women’s health sector. Organisations have had to completely rethink the way they support women, do their work, connect with partners, facilitate integrated service systems and lead their teams.

This leadership program aims to support leadership development and connectedness to assist the sector to build on and enhance the skills and new ways of working that have emerged throughout 2020 across the themes of daring, inclusive, feminist leadership.

About the program

We would like to invite people working in or connected with the sexual violence, women’s health and wellbeing and domestic violence sector to join us for our 2021 Leadership program.

Do you wish to lead and influence change in ending violence against women and children?
Do you wish to work to find the potential in people and processes?
Do you have the courage to develop your potential and the potential of others?

The program will explore what daring, inclusive and feminist leadership looks and feels like and how these qualities are being and can be enacted in the workplace and community.

To contribute to the development of a sector resource ‘what does daring, inclusive and feminist leadership look like in the sexual assault, women’s health and wellbeing and domestic violence sector in 2021?’

The series outcomes will align across several outcomes of the DFV practice principles, standards and guidance including 7.1 Working with other specialist domestic and family violence service providers.

Confirmed speakers for Symposium 3 on 3rd December include Dr Tracy Castelino from ShantiWorks, Daile Kelleher from Children by Choice and Heather Nancarrow, former CEO of ANROWS.

Tracy Castelino has been working to challenge and eliminate injustice and inequality for over 20 years. She has a passion for seeking respectful and innovative ways of working with individuals, organisations and communities to respond to the various issues that cause marginalisation and vulnerability.

Tracy, with her ShantiWorks’ team, works to create a reflective, educative space as a way to explore key issues such as domestic violence, whiteness and racism and responding to trauma.

Dr Heather Nancarrow

Dr Heather Nancarrow is an Adjunct Research Fellow at the Griffith Criminology Institute, Griffith University. For forty years she has worked to address violence against women, including in community services and advocacy, government policy, and research.

Heather recently retired from full time work with her most recent role being the inaugural CEO of Australia’s National Research Organisation for Women’s Safety (ANROWS). She was also the foundation Director of the Queensland Centre for Domestic and Family Violence Research at CQ University. Heather has held many leadership roles at the state and national level, including Deputy Chair of the National Council to Reduce Violence against Women and their Children, which produced Time for Action, the blue-print for COAG’s National Plan to Reduce Violence against Women and their Children 2010-2022.

Heather has a MA (Hons) and a PhD in Criminology and Criminal Justice. Her scholarship is focused on justice responses to violence against women. Her book, Unintended consequences of domestic violence law: Gendered Aspirations and Racialised Realities was published in 2019. She has also published several book chapters and numerous peer-reviewed articles related to justice for victim/survivors of domestic and family violence.

Daile Kelleher

Daile is the CEO of Children by Choice, Queensland’s state-wide counselling, information and education service on all pregnancy options, including abortion, adoption and parenting.

In 2018 Daile led the Children by Choice campaign to decriminalise abortion in Queensland and she continues to advocate for free, safe, legal, compassionate and local abortion care for women and pregnant people.

Daile aligns with Children by Choice’s vision, working towards a world where people can freely and safely make their own reproductive and sexual health choices without barriers.

Daile is a member of the management committee of Ending Violence Against Women Queensland and part of the Women’s Health Services Alliance of Queensland.
