Introducing DARK HOUSE — a night for the dark, the dreamy, the loud and the expressive. A space for music, art and letting go.

Launching the series is the live premiere of (A)RISE by Wiradjuri/Gadigal artist Akala Newman, expanding her new EP into an immersive performance experience. Developed during an international residency in Greece and recorded with support from Sound NSW, (A)RISE unfolds as an evening-length ritual weaving contemporary pop, moving image, spoken storytelling, language and embodied movement.

Emerging from the aftermath of her debut EP (A)VOID, (A)RISE explores what comes after survival — the shedding of old skin and the radical act of beginning again. Rather than a traditional concert, the performance moves through music, movement and story to explore renewal, feminine strength and collective transformation.

Presented by Dark House Night, a platform centring First Nations, BiPOC and queer artists and communities, this is the first chapter of a new late-night creative gathering.

The Sydney premiere takes place April 16 at The Imperial Erskineville.
