Event description

Celebrate the beauty of the cosmos with leading astronomer Dr Martin George from the stunning, cliff-top Table House Farm overlooking Bass Strait. Join us for a special evening of stargazing and sumptuous food prepared by Chef Simon Bold, accompanied by Tasmanian wines and the opportunity to sample the local Alchymia Distillery whisky.

6:30 PM – 10:30 PM | Saturday 1st April | TABLE HOUSE FARM
Sunset @ 7:09PM

Dr Martin George will present a talk entitled Great Discoveries in Astronomy. From Johannes Kepler’s 17th Century discovery of the shapes of the orbits of the planets, to our realisation — just 25 years ago — that the expansion of the Universe is accelerating, Martin will take you on a tour through the centuries, as humans have come to understand some of the mysteries of the Universe.

If the night is clear, we’ll head outside and gaze skyward. Martin will explain what we can see, even with the unaided eye.  Through the telescope, we'll have a good view of the Moon, and several star clusters in the Milky Way, including some of the finest in the sky. Although the Moon will be bright, we will be able to view the Orion Nebula, part of the famous ‘Iron Pot.’

We encourage people to bring along their own telescopes and binoculars if they like!
