Description
Darren Hanlon is an Australian singer/songwriter from Gympie, Queensland, who plays folk-rock and folk-pop. Before becoming a solo artist in 1999, he was a member of The Simpletons, and contributed backing guitar and keyboards for The Lucksmiths, The Deerhunters, and Mick Thomas. He officially stepped out on his own in 1999, releasing his Early Days EP in 2000 and his full-length debut, Hello Stranger, in 2002. Darren followed his first album with an extensive range of material, including Little Chills (2004) and Fingertips & Mountaintops (2006), and has become known for his engagement with his audiences, through his down-to-earth storytelling at live gigs as well as his often charming lyrics.
This year marks 21 years since Darren Hanlon began his infamous solo Christmas shows. Back in 2005 he decided to finish his year with just two shows, one at Sydney’s Mandarin Club and the other at the Northcote Social Club in Melbourne. It was meant to be a one off situation but each year it seemed to grow under its own steam.
This year he’s planned out yet another lap around the country playing in city pubs, bookshops, cinemas, churches and country halls, armed with his beat up old guitar, a road-worn banjo, and his ever growing collection of songs.
Doors open at 6:30pm for a 7pm start, so get there early to get your pick of seating.
