We’re wrapping up the year with a proper debate. No slides, no jargon, just sharp minds, and lively discussion.

Is AI overhyped, all promise and marketing spin with little real impact?
Are we inching toward the singularity, a future where machines outthink humans and change everything we know about work, creativity, and life itself?
Does current progress in AI offer a path toward the singularity - when machines can think for themselves and design new machines better and faster than humans can?
Is it all just a very fancy search function and random word salads?

Bill Gates says that humans won’t be needed “for most things” in ten years, Geoffrey Hinton puts the chance that AI wipes out humanity at 10-20%. And yet Yann LeCun's thinks "Machine learning sucks” and is decades away from a semblance of sentience. What do UWA’s researchers think?

Join us as our panel goes head-to-head on the biggest question in tech right now. Expect strong opinions, good humour, and plenty of audience involvement.
