This event has passed Get tickets

Event description

Participate safely in a controlled workshop to experience data-driven futures that might make the hairs at the back of your neck tingle as you are nudged out of your data comfort zone.

Who knew data workshops could get your adrenaline pumping with a truly exhilarating experience? Whether you are an entrepreneur, inventor, innovator or just plain curious, you are sure to enjoy yourself at this ANU School of Cybernetics workshop led by Research Fellow Chris Mesiku.

Discover how assumptions, learned behaviour and attitudes can impede innovative data driven solutions. Come with an open mind to enjoy this participatory experience designed to cultivate reflexive, purposeful data decision making to benefit everyone.

This learning experience with a difference will expose you to some of the reasons why data privacy continues to be such a polarising topic and why being able to design and use data products that anticipate and respond to change at any stage of deployment is an essential part of being a reflexive, responsible founder.

About Chris Mesiku

Chris Mesiku is a Research Fellow at the ANU School of Cybernetics researching challenges at the intersection of data and disadvantage. He has been working at CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation) in projects around data analytics, data visualisation and responsible adoption of technology. Beginning with trying to change smallholder farmers attitude to planting trees on their farms to trying to convince agricultural teachers to adopt data driven agriculture, Chris has always been interested in using data to achieve behaviour change for social transformation.
