Event description

The Program
Daughters and Dads Active and Empowered is a 9-week health and wellbeing program. The first session is a 2-hour dads-only session.

Week 1 (Dads Only) - Thursday 17th of October, 5:30-7:30pm (Food & beverages provided).

Weeks 2-9 (Daughters & Dads) each Thursday 5:30-7pm. Week 2 - October 24th until Week 9 December 19th.

Daughters and Dads then attend together for the following 8 weeks. Each week includes a 30-minute empowerment session and a 60-minute Active Session. The Empowerment sessions focus on a range of healthy lifestyle behaviours and social-emotional wellbeing constructs while the Active Sessions include rough and tumble play, sport skill development and fun fitness activities.

NOTE: We welcome father figures, including uncles, grandfathers, and mentors, to participate in the program alongside biological fathers, as we value diverse and supportive role models for our participants.

What is Daughters & Dads Active & Empowered?

Developed by the University of Newcastle, Daughters and Dads Active and Empowered is the world’s first physical activity program specifically targeting primary-school aged girls and their fathers/father figures. The program has been shown to improve a range of health behaviours in rigorous scientific studies and has won national and international awards for improving wellbeing and benefitting society.

The Benefits

  • Fathers (or father-figures) are taught key parenting and coaching skills to improve their daughter’s sports skills and social-emotional wellbeing.
  • Daughters make rapid skill improvements as they work with Dad as their 'personal coach’.
  • Daughters and Dads are empowered to recognise and address gender prejudice in sport and broader life.
