IT’S STILL A MUGS GAME TOUR

Dave Warner’s from the Suburbs original band reunion

In 1978 the three biggest selling Australian artists domestically were Skyhooks, Dragon and Dave Warner’s from the Suburbs who hit it big with the album Mugs Game and single Suburban Boy.

For the first time since 1979 the musicians that recorded that album – minus the late and very great Johnny Leopard – have returned, playing sold out shows in July through Sydney and Western Australia. Now it’s Melbourne’s turn to sample one of the most original bands Australia has ever produced.

John Dennison (keyboards), Tony Durant (guitar) Howie Johnstone (drums) and Paul Noonan (bass) join Dave Warner in performing all the original Mugs Game tracks plus some of the other most popular songs from the band.

Warner, whose first band Pus was punk before punk, formed the Suburbs in late 1976 after a year in Europe working out the thematic of what he termed `suburban rock’. The controversial take-no-prisoners Suburbs hit the Australian music scene like a Four and Twenty dropped from the top of the Southern Stand.  They outraged and delighted in turn. Bob Dylan declared Warner one of his two favourite Australian artists.

In late 1979 as the members pursued new creative goals, the members went their separate ways. They have since played in various combinations at various times and Warner has continued to perform select gigs.

`But this is the first time the five of us who recorded Mugs Game and played together during our most successful period have been back together. Our shows so far have been terrific. We’ve had a brilliant time and so have our audiences.’

In support is the brilliant Hanky Panky Social Club - The kooky kinky masked bandits serving you go go garage trash loaded with prom-night thrust. With loads of singalongs and dance numbers - every gig is an exotic 60’s rock'n'roll party!
