    Event description

Exploring the textile palette of designer Tom Trandt Minh Đạo in collaboration with the Repair Café at First Site Gallery RMIT.

This collaborative workshop with visiting Vietnamese designer Tom Trandt Minh Đạo from Moi Dien and the Repair Café at RMIT will explore the nexus of textile embellishment and expressive mending methods. Starting with textile remnants and fabric manipulation techniques from Tom Trandt Minh Đạo you will develop their application to mend your torn, unworn or unfavourably decorated clothing and accessories.

Bring to the workshop two garments or textile accessories that are currently unworn due to tears, stains, holes or unwanted decoration (eg, a brand or print). Ideal examples include torn jeans or shirts, stained t-shirts, promotional tote bags etc.

The focus will be on using your garment’s “fault” as the site/starting point for exploration and play with a palette of textiles and technique.

Sewing materials will be provided, though you are welcome to bring favoured tools or threads. All sewing levels are welcome from beginner to experienced.
